Math - Customer Support
The Windows version of Legal Math has been in
distribution since 1999. During that time, a
number of improvements, fixes and changes have been made in order to
make the program nicer and easier to use.
Through this web site, existing licensed customers can
update to the most
recent version of the program -- at a seriously
discounted price. Before purchasing an update, you
may wish to consider purchasing the new web based
service from
www.math4law.com which is based on Legal Math.
A generous free trial is available to existing customers
of Legal Math.
Version 2007 is the current version. It
was last changed in October, 2018.
Programs prior to Version 2007
will not work in Windows 7 or 10 (See note below titled
"Why doesn't my Activation Code work - Answer #3"
That note will explain this issue.)
The last
most significant changes:
1. Revising the program so that it works with newer
versions of Windows.
2. Optional "grace
periods" have been added to the Interest on Irregular Debt feature.
Look at the "Settings" menu of your program. If it
doesn't have "Grace Periods" then you don't have this
significant change. There are now five different
ways to define a "grace period."
3. Data entry screens are larger.
Frequently asked questions:
-
If I want to purchase, download and install an
Update, do I need to have the prior version installed on
my computer?
Answer: No. The file you will be
downloading is the Setup file which can be used to
install a complete program from scratch. You can use
it to put the program on a new computer. Save it
(burn it) to a CD. Throw away or delete all prior
versions of the Setup file.
Before purchasing an
update, you may wish to consider purchasing the new
web based service from
www.math4law.com which is based on Legal
Math. A generous free trial is available to
existing customers of Legal Math.
-
Should I "uninstall" a prior version
before I install the Update?
Answer: No.
-
Is there a charge for installing the program on
more than one computer?
Answer:
Yes. The base price of the program for a single
computer is $149. The cost of a license to use
the program from or to install the
program to the first additional computer is $85.
The cost of a license to use the program from or to
install the program to the next additional computer is $65.
More detailed pricing information is available if
you go to the screen where you can purchase
additional licenses for the copy you already have.
Before doing so, you may
wish to consider purchasing the new web based
service from
www.math4law.com which is based on Legal
Math. A generous free trial is available to

-
If I purchase a multi-user
license, how can I install the program on
the second computer without having to go back through
the cedit card purchase process?
Answer: Once
you have paid for the program and obtained your
Activation Code, you can return to the web site using
a different computer and download the program a second
time. In fact, you can
taken to the screen where you can download the
program. (Remember, you will be downloading a "setup"
file, which means you will need to "run" the setup
file in order to install the program.)
Alternatively, you can copy the
downloaded setup file to a CD or to a USB flash drive
and hand carry it over to your other computer..
-
Are there any written instructions
for the program?
Answer: After you have installed the program, locate the Legal Math folder
on the Programs menu. You will see an
icon for Legal Math Instructions from which you can
open an Instruction document Adobe Acrobat format.
To get a head start on how to use the interest
calculation feature of the program start, you should
also download, print and be familiar with the
content of this two page
Quick Start PDF file.
-
How can I change the
name of the Licensed Owner so that the program prints
the correct name on program generated reports?
Answer: After you have installed the program, read
the instructions from within the program that
explain changing the name of the registered owner.
-
Why doesn’t my Activation Code
work?
Answerr#1: Be sure you have typed your name exactly
as the name appears on the document sent to you
when you first purchased the program. The Code
is "matched" to your licensed name. If your
name changes you may need to obtain a new
license and a new Code. See "Law Firm Name
Changes" above..
Answer#2: You might be using an older code with a new program or a
new code with an older program. You get a new
Code every time there is a new version. A
common error is to install an older program
from an older CD, and then try to activate it
with a code for the newer version. A
similar common erroris to download and
install Version 2007 and then try to activate it
with an Activation Code from an older version of
the program.
Most customers have acquired
the program by downloading it from the web site,
and there is no CD. If you have a CD for
an older version, get rid of it now. Not
by coincidence, the Activation Code for Version
2007 must end "2007". If it doesn't end
"2007", then the Code is for an earlier version or for a different
program, and it will not work. This issue
is not solved by merely changing the last four
digits of the Code to 2007.
Please see the paragraph
below titled "I can't find my Activation Code
..." for some suggestions as to finding the
right code for the right program.
Answer#3: Neither Program Version 99 nor Program
Version 2004 can be properly activated on
Windows 7 or 10 -- even if you are
using the correct Activation Code.
Substantial
portions of the program had to be revised,
resulting in Version 2007, in order to make the
program work correctly with newer versions of Windows. The error message you will
receive will indicate that there is a mismatch
with the name and the Activation Code, but in
fact that is probably not the problem. The
problem is that newer versions of Windows have
taken control, and have stopped these earlier
versions of the program from writing necessary
files at the point in time when you click the OK
button on the Activation Code screen.
Version 2007 will work correctly for Windows 7 and 10. For a seriously reduced price,
licensed users of Versions 99 and 2004 can
update to Version 2007 through this web site.

I can't find my
Activation Code / Password. Where can I find it?
The Code, formerly known as the Password, was originally
furnished to you via e-mail when you purchased the
program. The instructions suggested that you make
a file folder in which to store that Code.
Possibly you made such a file and can find the Code in
the file cabinet.
If you have an existing
occurrence of the program that can be opened on some
other computer in your office, you can find the Code by
clicking on the top line menu item called Licensed User. Then
click Change Name of
Licensed User. You
might also find the Code by clicking either of the top
line menu items: Activation
Code or About.
On newer programs, the Activation Code appears on the
lower left corner of the opening screen of the program.
Your Activation Code must
"match" the program for which it is being used.
Each product has a different code. And each
substantial update of a single product has a different
code. The name of the product and its version
number are always written on the factory original CD and
in the documents furnished at the time of original
purchase.

I can't find my CD and need to
install the program to a new computer:
Answer:
Most customers
first obtained their program on line and never
had a CD. So it's not really lost. A CD is no
longer necessary. Existing licensed customers
of Version 2007, who wish to install the program
to a new computer can download and reinstall the
program from this web site. There is no charge.
Scroll to the bottom of this screen where
there is a link that will take you to where you
can download Version 2007.
If you only have a single computer license, you
should first make arrangements to pay the extra
cost for additional licenses.

Where
can I download the current version (Version
2007)?
Scroll to the bottom of
this screen where there is a link that will take
you to where you can download Version 2007.
The usual assumption here is that you have
already purchased a license to use Version 2007
of program, you already have your Activation
Code, and now you need to install or reinstall
Version 2007 to a new or different computer. If
you have not yet purchased Version 2007, you
first need to make financial arrangements and
get a new Activation Code.
-
Version 2004 users who don't want to update to the new Version 2007:
I can't find my
licensed copy of the Version 2004 Setup file.
Answer:
Version 2004 is 15 years old and no longer
available. You may wish to consider

It won't do you
any good to download the program unless you have
already purchased or intend to purchase the program.
The program requires a unique activation code to
become operable. This code is available only
after payment arrangements have been made.
