Legal Math

Issue - Unable to enter values or dates

Symptom:  All data is mysteriously changed and otherwise scrambled when using the keyboard to enter values and dates in the data entry grid used for the interest on irregular payments program.

Solution: I have recently discovered that a file installed by Bender/Collier Top Form  Bankruptcy program is seriously interfering with Legal Math programs which are older than late 2003.  I have had discussions with the publisher of Top Form, however they do not seem to think the problem is as serious as it really is.  The problem is that their program is using a file similar to a file used by Legal Math.  Their file has the same name as the file used by Legal Math, but it is not "backwardly compatible."  (The file used by Legal Math is compatible with Top Form, but not the other way around.)

In the meantime, the best fix is to delete the offending file put in place by Top Form: ssdw3b32.ocx  (Alternatively, you can rename it to something like ssdw3b32xx.ocx.)  This file will be found on you computer at c:\windows\system  or in c:\windows\system32   Then re-install the Legal Math program.  The installation process will put a slightly older version of ssdw3b32.ocx back onto your hard disk drive.  The result will be to roll back the ssdw3b32.ocx file from version 3.13 to 3.11.  (It is the Version 3.13 that is being written to your hard disk drive by the new Top Form program.)

My discussions with other customers who have experienced this problem and my discussions with the people at Collier Top Form indicate that this fix, which will replace Version 3.13 of ssdw3b32.ocx with Version 3.11, will not interfere with Top FormCollier Top Form may someday have a better solution, but I'm not optimistic.

The other quick fix is to purchase and install the $75 Version 2004 update for Legal Math.  The installation process for Version 2004 will automatically put version 3.11 of the file named ssdw3b32.ocx back in place.
