Financial Affidavit - Customer Support

  • What is the latest version?  Version 2006 was first released in late July, 2006.  In 2007, the program was changed to make it compatible with Windows Vista.  Since then, occasional changes (fixes?) have been made.  From the link in the rectangle below you can be taken to a page where you can get the latest "build" of the program.  There is no charge for this service.  The assumption is that you have already paid for this Version of the program and that you have your Version 2006 Activation Code.  Click here for information telling you where to find your Activation Code.
    • You don't need the Activation Code to download or to install the program.
    • You don't need the code to use the program if you are just updating an existing occurrence of the program with the latest "build" of the program.
    • You do need an Activation Code the first time you use the program after a new installation on a computer where the program does not now exist.
    • The most recent file was put in place on the web site on April 16, 2009.
    • At this point in time (unless you first purchased your program after January 1, 2009) you should not be relying on an old (pre-2009) CD to install or to re-install the program.  Rather, you should download the Setup file from the link below.  The "download" process will give you a choice whether to "Run" or "Save" the Setup file.  Select Run to install the program right away on the computer you are using.  Then come back to the web site and select Save to save the Setup file for future use.   Be sure to save the Setup file to a location on your hard disk where you can find it (i.e. Desktop). Then you can copy the Setup file to your own new CD where you will have it for future use.  Be sure to throw away any old program CDs so they don't confuse you in the future.

  • I need to download the current version (Version 2006) of the Colorado Financial Affidavit program.
Click here to download Version 2006 of the Financial Affidavit program.

It won't do you any good to download the program unless you have already purchased, or intend to purchase, the program. The program requires a unique activation code to become operable.  This code is available only after payment arrangements have been made.

You may want to download and read this Installation and Summary Document (PDF file) which further describes Installation and gives a summary of the program's features.
You may want to download and read this Instructions for Use Document (PDF file) which describes how to use the program after it is has been installed. (After you install the program, this same Instruction PDF file will be available to you from the Programs menu from your Desktop, whether or not you download it here and now.)

Frequently asked questions:

  • A number of changes have been made since Version 2006 was first released (July, 2006)   Whether or not you have experienced any problems, please download the latest file.

  • Will the program work with Windows Vista?  Yes.  The original release of Version 2006 pre-dated Vista.  That release would not work with Vista.  The changes to make the program work with Vista were made in mid-2007.  If you are moving to Vista, do not use your old CD to install the program on your new Vista computer.  You should start with the latest release.  You can download the latest release here.  The original release need not, and should not, be present on your new Vista computer.  Your Activation code for Version 2006 will work with the Vista compatible program.  The last four numbers of the code should end "2006".  You do not need the Activation code to download or to install the program.  You only need it the first time you use the program.

  •  When I try to activate my program with my personal Activation Code, it tells me that the number does not match the number expected for my name.

The most common reasons for this mismatch are:

(1.) The Activation Code you are using is from a different version of the program - meaning older code with newer program, or newer code with older program.  The Activation Code should end "2006".  If your paper work indicates that you have the right Activation Code, then get the newest release of Version 2006 here.

(2.) The name you are using is not the same as the name when the Activation Code was furnished. (But see "Law Firm Name Changes" below)

(3.) The program you have installed is from before the program was changed to be Vista compatible.  The incompatibility with Vista will result in an error message telling you that the Code does not match the name.  The Code may well match, but Vista will be telling you that it doesn't. Re-install using the Setup file that you can can download and install from this web site.  See "Will the program work with Windows Vista" above.

  • Is there a charge for installing the program on more than one computer?

Yes.  There is a $29.00 one time charge.  Not $29.00 per computer.  Just $29.00.

If you wish to install the Financial Affidavit program on more than one computer, you will need to purchase a multi-computer license for the copy of the program you already own.

  • If I purchase a multi-computer license, how can I put it on a second computer without having to pay for it again?  After you have purchased the program and gotten your Activation Code, go to the second computer.  From the second computer, return to the web site.  There you can download the program again.  Click here to be taken to a page where you can get the latest release.  Alternatively, the file you originally download can be copied to a CD or to a USB memory device.  You do not need the Activation code to download or to install the program.  You only need the Code the first time you use the program.  This assumes you have previously purchased the multi-computer license.

  • When I originally purchased the program, I downloaded it from the internet, and I do not have a CD.  Now I need to install the program on a new computer.  How can I install the program on a new computer without having to pay for it again?

Click here to be taken to a page where you can get the latest release of the program setup file.  You do not need the Activation Code to download the Setup file or to install the program.  But you will need the Activation Code the first time you use the program.

When you first purchased the program you were given an Activation Code.  Here are some suggestions to consider if you can't find your Version 2006 Activation Code.

  • Are there any written instructions for the program?  Yes.  You can download an Instruction file right here if you want.  After the program has been installed, you can see this same Instruction file if you: click the  Start  button on the Windows Desktop; then click Programs; then click Financial Affidavit 2006.  There you will see Affidavit 2006 - Instructions (Acrobat)   Be sure to open the Financial Affidavit 2006 folder, not the folder for some earlier version of the program.

Activation Code and Name Change Explained

When does one need an Activation Code [a.k.a. "password"]?   An Activation Code is needed when the program is first installed. The Activation Code is a unique set of numbers that will only work when matched to your name.

What is the Activation Code for? The Activation Code requirement keeps the program from being used by too many unlicensed, unauthorized program "borrowers".

Is the Activation Code needed when a program is updated? If the program being installed is not a "substantial" update to a program previously licensed, there is no need to enter the Activation Code if the program update is installed to the same folder on the same computer where the original program is to be found.  A substantial update (one for which you need to pay) will require a new Activation Code.  A "substantial" update will have a different Version number.

Where can a program Activation Code be found or obtained?

Existing users: If you already have a license to use the program, you can run an existing occurrence of the program and find the activation code  by clicking Change Name of Registered Owner on the first screen of the program (the photo screen).  The number is also available by clicking About on the top line menu.

Alternatively, look for your Activation Code either: (1.) On the paper sent to you when you first purchased a license; (2.) In an email sent to you when you first purchased a license or (3.) On a print out of the web page that was furnished to you when you first purchased a license.

New users: If you are a new user, an new Activation Code can be obtained by making payment arrangements, either by phone or through this web site.

Why doesn’t my Activation Code work?  Be sure you have typed your name exactly as the name appears on the document sent to you when you first purchased the program.   The Code is "matched" to your licensed name.  If your name changes, you probably do not need to obtain a new Code. Once the program has been activated using the original name, you can change the original name used by the program without getting a new Code -- if the new name contains a reasonable portion of the original name.  Otherwise you may need to obtain a new license and a new Code.  See "Law Firm Name Changes" below.

Another reason why your Activation Code does not work might be that you are using an older code with a new program or a new code with an older program.  You get a new Code every time there is a new version.  A common error is to install an older program from an older CD, and then try to activate it with a code for the newer version.  Most customers have acquired the program by downloading it from the web site, and there is no CD.  If you have a CD for an older version, get rid of it now.

Please see the Section above titled "Where can a program Activation Code be found or obtained" for some suggestions as to finding the right code for the right program.

Endings and Introductory Phrases: In most cases, your Activation Code will work with your name or your law firm name even if you add a phrase to the beginning such as "Law Office of …" or "The Law office of …" or if you add a phrase to the end such as "P.C.", "LLC",  "& Associates" , "Attorney at Law", "Jr."  These few examples are just a few of the possibilities. Try adding whatever you want to see if it works. If not, call or write for assistance.

Law firm Name Changes:  If your name changes, you probably do not need to obtain a new Code.  Once the program has been activated using the original name, you can change the original name used by the program without getting a new Code -- if the new name contains a reasonable portion of the original name.  Otherwise you will need to get a new license and a new Code to match the new firm name.  In order for this feature to work without problem, it will probably be necessary to download and install the most recent "build" of the program.  Licensed users of the program can download and install the most recent "build" of the program right here from this web site without charge.

Warnings and Provisos: If a law firm dissolves and a former associate, partner or shareholder changes the name from within the program, that person should be the one who is entitled to continuing ownership of the license to use the software. Separate financial arrangements will need to be made with other former associates, partners or shareholders before they can begin using the program.
