Issue: How to
create a PDF file from the Affidavit program
|
Comment: The program does not have
its own proprietary method of creating a PDF file. Rather, it
depends upon your having Adobe Acrobat properly installed. The
Acrobat program required is the "real" Adobe Acrobat, not the free
Acrobat "Reader". The "real" Acrobat program is available at
software stores everywhere. It is also available mail order
from many places. Try PC Connection at 800-800-5555
Solution: With Adobe Acrobat
properly installed, you will see Acrobat (or Acrobat
Distiller or Acrobat Writer) on your list of printers.
The concept here is that Windows will "see" Acrobat as being
one of your attached printers. You will be "printing to
Acrobat." The effect is to create a PDF file rather than a
paper document. See image below.
When you are at the Printer Dialog (the last
step before sending the document to a printer) it should look like
this:
|

Now you need to select Acrobat as the desired
printer. Then click "Print".
After clicking "Print" you will be given an opportunity
to give your PDF file a name and to specify where it should be
saved:
|
Be sure to specify a location for saving your PDF
file where you will be able to find it later when you need to e-file
or email it to the court or to your client. Notice above that
a separate folder has been created named "PDF Files".
This folder can be used to store all PDF files created by your Adobe
Acrobat program.
Alternatively, on a case by case basis, you can
specify a client data folder as the location for a particular PDF
file. Just be sure that you know how to find that file when it
comes time to do something with it.

Other uses for Adobe Acrobat: There are many
other uses for the Adobe Acrobat program besides creating documents
to be e-filed or e-mailed. Any screen that can be printed can
be converted to a PDF file.
Examples:
-
You might be looking at an interesting web site and
want to save it for future reference or to have it available to
be printed a later date. This is most likely the case when
using a lap top computer with a wireless internet connection
when no printer is attached. Print the web page to a PDF
file. Then print it later when a printer is available.
-
PDF files make sending documents to clients and
other lawyers more reliable and "portable". (PDF =
Portable Document Format) With a PDF file, it matters not
whether the program that created the document was Work
Perfect or Word (or which version of either may have
been used). Print the document to a PDF file and send it
on its way. The receiving party only needs Acrobat Reader
to read the file -- ending all worries about program
compatibility as among writers and readers.
