Child Support Program Update
This page explains the status of recent versions of the program and
attempts to provide necessary information from which you can make an
informed decision as to whether to purchase the current Update. The
current program is Colorado Child Support Guidelines Version 2008.
In response to major legislative changes the Child Support
program experienced a major revision in the Fall of 2002. The two most
significant changes related to: (1.) the new Low Income Adjustment
provision of the new law and (2.) the fact that the new law completely
revised the underlying table of values upon which child support calculations
depend. The new law was effective on January 1, 2003. The
program was then called Version 2003.
An additional change in law occurred on July 1, 2003 when SB 03-79
revised the new Low Income Adjustment provisions of the prior year's SB
02-21. This change limited the applicability of the Low Income
Adjustment such that it no longer applied to a shared time (Worksheet B)
situation. This program revision was known for awhile as Version
2003b. It is then became known as Version 2004.
In mid-2007, the program was changed internally so that it would work
with Microsoft Vista. It then became known as Version 2007.
The math of Version 2007 was the same as the math for Version 2004.
In 2007 the Legislature passed a comprehensive rewrite of the Child
Support Guidelines, changing the statutory numbering system for nearly every
provision. The 2007 legislation also included a change in the
allowable deduction for "non-joint" children. The change is effective
January 1, 2008. The requirement that such children not be "after
born" was dropped. Added, however, was a limitation on the amount of
the deduction. The deduction is now limited to 75% of the statutorily
defined calculated amount. These changes have been incorporated into
what is now known as Version 2008.
The bad news is that no older version (before 2008) can be relied upon
to get the correct result. The good news is that the program is quite
a bit nicer that it used to be. The screens are larger. The
print preview shows what will be printed, not just the calculations, the
Help and Instruction documents are easier to access, the error messages have
been "quieted down" a little, and all of the citations have been updated.
The $105 update offered on this web site is intended for existing
users of Version 2003 through 2007. If you are
eligible for update pricing, you do not need to have a prior version present
on your computer in order to install and use this Version 2008.
For an additional $40, you can purchase a multi-user license for
Version 2008, which allows you to use the program on all computers in your
office.
The new program price remains at $215 (plus $40 for the multi-user
license).
